Sui's mainnet stalled on May 28, 2026, halting all transaction processing for an undetermined period in the second network outage the layer-1 blockchain has experienced this year.

The Sui Core team confirmed the disruption via the project's official X account, posting: "Sui Mainnet is currently experiencing a network stall. The Sui Core team is actively working on a solution. Be aware that transactions may be paused at this time. Updates will be shared as soon as they are available." As of publication, the team had not disclosed the cause.

The May 28 incident follows an earlier 2026 outage also confirmed via the @SuiNetwork account. Two outages in under five months establish a pattern rather than an isolated event — a significant liability for a network whose core value proposition is high-speed, low-fee infrastructure for DeFi and gaming applications. Chains that position themselves as performance alternatives to Ethereum and Solana carry a higher burden on uptime; downtime undermines the pitch directly.

Sui launched in 2023, developed by Mysten Labs, and has grown into one of the higher-profile newer L1s competing for institutional developer mindshare. Any halt on a network used for production DeFi protocols and gaming applications has immediate on-chain consequence: transactions queue, users cannot interact with applications, and liquidity providers cannot manage positions.

The native SUI token fell approximately 8% in the 24 hours surrounding the outage, per CoinGecko market data. Broader crypto markets were also under pressure on the day — a Hormuz-driven risk-off move contributed to general market weakness — making it difficult to isolate how much of the SUI decline was outage-specific versus macro. The token was trading near $0.92 at the time of publication.

The Sui team said it would share updates as the investigation continues. No timeline for full resolution or a post-mortem was provided.
